FAQ

  • Where can I see more clothes from a certain era/designer?  First of all, check out my tags page or the designer page.  I tag things by decade and designer, as well as anything that’s not a dress.
  • Can you give me information about clothing worn in (place) during (era)?  Again, check out the tags by date, and then check out my Tips for Research page.  I’ve laid out my best advice for getting costuming right and finding the information you need when you’re working on a history project but you don’t have Steven Spielberg’s team of researchers working for you.
  • Where can I get more information about a specific dress?  I include a click-through link to the original page with everything I post.  If there isn’t a link and it’s from a museum, it’s because the museum website doesn’t allow permalinks.  If it’s from a vintage website, it’s because the dress has been sold.
  • Can I use OMGTD as a reference?  Of course.  That’s what it’s here for.  Just give proper credit where due.  If you’re making a creative project, I’d love to see the finished product.
  • Can I request something?  Sure, just check out the guidelines first!
  • What should I wear to prom?  I don’t know.
  • What should I wear to a vintage-theme party?  I don’t know.
  • Where can I get a great vintage dress?  I’m a blogger, not a stylist, so I can’t get your dream vintage dress in your size.  Sorry.  Have you tried Google?
  • WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?!  Seriously just to reiterate, I AM NOT A PERSONAL STYLIST.  Any questions about what you should wear will be deleted.
  • Does Downton Abbey have accurate costuming? Yes.  And Julian Fellowes can kiss my fat American highly accurate period drama writing ass.
  • Are The Great Gatsby’s costumes accurate? No.
  • What about the costuming for __________? Contrary to popular belief, I haven’t seen every period film/TV show ever made.  If you want to know, I suggest going to the tags, finding the decade (or sometimes the specific year) of said movie/show and checking things out for yourself.
  • What movie/TV shows have the most accurate costuming?  See the above answer.
