Feliz Dia de los Muertos! Today’s the day we honor the dead, bring them presents and clean up their graves (or just tumbl and pretend we know Spanish).
In honor of today’s holiday, We’re featuring the style of one of el Dia’s most popular figures, La Catrina. She originally appeared as an etching made by printmaker Jose Guadalupe Posada in 1913 as a parody of the upper-class Mexican women of the day (one of the aspects of el Dia include making good-natured fun of both the living and the dead). Since then, La Catrina and her outlandish hats have become an integral part of the imagery of el Dia de los Muertos.
