Fortuny dresses are unique and their pleats were a technological marvel for the day. Fortuny never revealed the secret of how they were made, and the exact process died with him. There are, however, close approximations out there. The dresses themselves are made of plain silk and held together with silk cords and murano glass beads. The vibrant colors were achieved through multiple dye baths.
