Fashion Week Internationale
I just discovered this fascinating video series from Vice. The opening credits describe it as “a look at fashion weeks around the world and the cultures and politics behind them.” While fashion weeks in New York, London, Paris, and Milan get all the attention, Fashion Week Internationale looks at some of the lesser-known fashion weeks, in places like Pakistan, Cambodia, Nigeria, and Colombia (just to name a few). The series not only looks at the fabulous fashion that comes from these shows, but also looks at the greater context and meanings of what on the surface may look like a celebration of frivolity. This series does a wonderful job of showing fashion’s place in the world.
